Hyundai i30

Hyundai has revealed the first photos of the new-generation i30, ahead of the car's world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), showing an exciting new look for the company's best-selling C-segment hatchback.

Hyundai expects the new-generation i30 to build on the remarkable success of the original model - the company's first car to be launched with the 'i' prefix, introducing a new nomenclature and heralding a new era for Hyundai in Europe.

The original Hyundai i30 was also the first model to be designed and engineered in Europe, the first to be produced at the company's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic, and the first Hyundai car to receive five stars from Euro NCAP.

After its July 2007 launch, the Hyundai i30 went on to increase its sales in Europe every year, attracting 115,000 buyers in 2010 - the highest-ever annual sales figure for an individual Hyundai model in Europe - and achieving total sales of more than 350,000 units up to mid-2011.

Designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the new-generation Hyundai i30 represents a further evolution of the unique Hyundai form language, 'fluidic sculpture', displaying the company's distinctive design DNA.

Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre, commented: "The new-generation i30 is recognisable thanks to the Hyundai family face with its signature hexagonal-shaped front grille and the jewel-like design of the headlamps, together with distinctive daytime running lights. These lights present an angular shape within a more softly-edged recess, adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury."

"Through the profile of the new generation i30, a strong character line runs over the front and rear wheelarches all the way to the tail lamps. A softer, lower character line rises up the car's flank creating a play of light and shadow - a fundamental feature of fluidic sculpture," Thomas Bürkle concluded.

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented, "We expect the new-generation i30 to appeal to young, progressive buyers who want a car that not only performs well but looks great too. In this way, the new-generation Hyundai i30 will contribute to future sales success, growing brand awareness and improving perceptions of Hyundai among European consumers."

"The car has been designed to take on the leading vehicles in the C-segment and join the all-new i40 as a quality benchmark for Hyundai. Our ultimate customer care package, Five Year Triple Care, will be a valuable point of differentiation for the new-generation Hyundai i30 in its highly competitive class," Allan Rushforth added.

The award-winning Five Year Triple Care package provides five years of unlimited-mileage warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.

Do I need a Car Accident Attorney?
Car accidents are very common. Many car accidents are not serious, but if the accident was serious you may have suffered severe damage to your property or person. Depending on the seriousness of the injury, it might be helpful to hire a personal injury attorney. An expert personal injury lawyer can help gather accident reports, medical and insurance forms and correspond with all parties involved. Personal injury lawyers can also interview witnesses and document injuries and explain all the legal statutes.

Insurance companies will have a group of adjusters and investigators who want to minimize the amount of money paid to an injured party. A car accident lawyer can work for you to maximize the compensation you receive from your car accident case. Compensation for injuries might be calculated based on monetary losses such as medical expenses, property damage, and lost wages. But they also might include non-economic losses such as permanent disabilities, emotional distress and other pain and suffering. The insurance companies may offer an initial settlement amount that will not fully compensate you for your losses. To make sure you receive the full compensation you deserve consult a personal injury lawyer.

If a company was at fault because a defective or recalled product caused the car accident you may be entitled to not only compensatory damages but also punitive damages against the company. A personal injury lawyer can help determine if a company was negligent in the manufacturing of a product.

VW CrossTouran

It's the positive lifestyle statement of the summer: the new Volkswagen CrossTouran! Following the CrossPolo and CrossGolf launched earlier in the year, the VW CrossTouran now fills the gap in the Cross lifestyle family. Volkswagen's 'more extrovert' compact MPV is now available to order from a starting price of €27,700.

The Touran already follows the new Volkswagen design DNA and impresses externally with a dynamic character line, a new, powerful rear-end design and two-part taillight clusters. However, the Volkswagen CrossTouran traditionally 'goes one better' and with its modified bad road kit complete with longer suspension springs it gets 20 millimetres more ground clearance than the standard model. On top of that comes the mix of 215 tyres at the front and 235s at the back, both on 17-inch alloy wheels. Thanks to its striking exterior elements the new CrossTouran is also instantly perceived as an autonomous model. The widened wheel arches form a unit with the side sills, which are drawn right up into the doors. It is also given a sporty character by the differentiated front and rear bumpers and the black grained protective strips on the doors.

In addition to a specific design the autonomous 'Cross' brand also stands - like 'GTI' and 'R' - for a specially designed set of features. As well as the alloy wheels, bodywork kit and bad road suspension, the new Volkswagen CrossTouran boasts added features aplenty: a roof rack in matt aluminium, decorative trim in stainless steel look, electric windows front and rear, extra comfortable seats in the front with height adjustment and lumbar support, leather steering wheel plus leather trim on gearlever knob and handbrake and a special seat cover pattern.

Through the sum of its special features the VW CrossTouran glistens with Wolfsburg virtues: interior comfort and convenience (40 storage bins and optional third seating row), driving fun and environmental awareness. For instance, as well as with the familiar TSI and TDI engines the new Volkswagen CrossTouran is now also available with the particularly efficient and environmentally friendly 'EcoFuel' natural gas engine. Fuel consumption when driving on natural gas is 4.8 kilograms per 100 kilometres, which equates to CO2 emissions per kilometre of 133 grams. The additional natural gas tanks are located beneath the floor, so that the vehicle's cargo capacity of up to 1,989 litres is not affected.

In total Volkswagen CrossTouran customers have a wide array of TSI, TDI and natural gas engines to choose from, ranging in power from 77 kW to 125 kW (105 to 170 PS). This lifestyle-oriented all-rounder - complete with all visual and technical refinements - can now be ordered in Germany from a starting price of €27,700.

The Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car emphasises Lotus' motorsport pedigree, utilising beautiful high quality materials with exposed carbon fibre and plush alcantara. The striking white concept car is finished in an advanced water based pearlesent paint that contrasts with the exquisitely finished weave on the carbon fibre panels.

The head turning looks of the Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car provide a more purposeful, planted stance with the car looking lower and more aggressive. This styling direction is continued with a structural carbon fibre roof, Lotus Motorsport influenced carbon diffuser and carbon splitter. The Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car retains the same class leading handling and high tech aluminium bonded and extruded chassis of the production car.

The contemporary interior of the Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car combines the lustre of the carbon panels with perforated leather and matt alcantara. The bespoke interior uses swathes of sumptuous grey alcantara to cover the footwell, dashboard and roof. The soft texture of the leather and alcantara are juxtaposed with the hard surfaces of the carbon fibre to provide a satisfying sensory experience.

The Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car has diamond cut forged 19" alloy wheels front and rear, shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres (235/35 wide front and 285/30 wide rear). The wheels and tyres give the Lotus Evora real presence filling the wheel arches and giving the car a purposeful appearance.

Donato Coco, Director of Lotus Design commented, "The design of the Lotus Evora Carbon Concept car features exotic, high tech materials that offer a good synergy with the Lotus brand image, expressing our motorsport heritage and history of stylish sports cars for which Lotus are renowned."

Lotus Exige Sprint

Lotus Cars has taken one of the most recognisable and iconic Lotus colour schemes from the early 1970s and reintroduced it for the first time with the limited edition Lotus Exige Sprint.

Just 40 right hand drive Lotus Exige Sprint will go on sale in the UK and Ireland in a duo-tone paint scheme of Aspen White on the lower portion of the body and a choice of Solar Yellow or Persian Blue on the upper portion of the body. The two colours are separated by a gold stripe bearing the name Exige Sprint on the doors on either side of the car.

To celebrate the start of Lotus production at Hethel in 1967, just 40 cars will be built for the UK market and each one will have an individually numbered chassis year build plate covering1967 to 2007, except for 1982, the year of Colin Chapman's untimely and tragic death. Each car will also come together with a heritage pack containing a certificate signed by Lotus' Chief Executive Mike Kimberley and "The Lotus Book" written by William Taylor featuring in depth reviews of the models produced at Hethel.

The Lotus Exige Sprint honours the colour scheme of the legendary Elan Sprint, which entered production in early 1971, 37 years ago. The design was adapted from the red and gold and white colour scheme of the Team Lotus Formula One sponsors at the time: Gold Leaf Tobacco. Other colours were also introduced including the blue, gold and white and yellow, gold and white, both of which are honoured on the Lotus Exige Sprint.

More that just a colour scheme The Lotus Exige Sprint includes as standard, ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels, air conditioning, Sport Pack, Touring Pack and the newly available Performance Pack giving phenomenal acceleration of zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds (estimated), reaching 100 mph in just another 6 seconds (estimated) before topping out at 146 mph. The Sprint also features a unique interior trim with distinctive embroidery and exterior decals.

Lotus Exige Sprint
Even without the unique paint and trim features that the Lotus Exige Sprint benefits from, equipping a standard Lotus Exige to the same specification would cost a customer £44,050 (MSRP), so the £42,550 (MSRP) for the Lotus Exige Sprint provides superb value for performance.

Mike Kimberley, Chief Executive for Group Lotus plc said, "Back in 1970, I was working on the Elan Sprint with a team of talented engineers led by Tony Rudd. It was a car that at the time was virtually unbeatable on a quick country road dash. The Elan Sprint with its sophisticated and elegant colour scheme was my particular favourite of the Elan range and it is fantastic to see the colour schemes being reintroduced for this limited edition of just 40 UK cars. Of course, being more than just a colour scheme, we are offering the driver an unparalleled Lotus Exige driving experience in a car that will, in a few years time, cement itself into the Lotus legend".

The Lotus Elan Sprint: 1971 to 1973
The Lotus Elan Sprint was the last version of the quintessential 1960s sportscar. Using the 126 bhp Lotus "Big Valve" Twin Cam 1558cc engine and weighing just 1570lbs (714 kg) the Elan Sprint shot to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds - a great performance by today's standards and almost unheard of in 1971. The Elan sprint ended production in August 1973 after 1353 examples were built.

1945 Jeep CJ-2A

The first civilian Jeep vehicle, the CJ-2A, was produced in 1945. Willys advertisements marketed the Jeep as a work vehicle for farmers and construction workers. It came with a tailgate, side-mounted spare tire, larger headlights, an external fuel cap and many more items that its military predecessors did not include.

The CJ-2A was produced for four years, and in 1948 the CJ-3A was introduced. It was very similar to the previous model but featured a one-piece windscreen, and retained the original L-head four-cylinder engine.

1943 Jeep Willys MB

With modifications and improvements, the Willys Quad became the MA, and later the MB. But the Army, and the world, came to know it as the Jeep®.

Some claimed that the name came from the slurring of the letters "GP," the military abbreviation for "General Purpose." Others say the vehicle was named for a popular character named "Eugene the Jeep" in the Popeye cartoon strip. Whatever its origin, the name entered into the American lexicon and, for awhile, served almost as a generic title for off-road vehicles, while the Jeep itself became an icon of the war.

The Willys MA featured a gearshift on the steering column, low side body cutouts, two circular instrument clusters on the dashboard, and a hand brake on the left side. Willys struggled to reduce the weight to the new Army specification of 2,160 lbs. Items removed in order for the MA to reach that goal were reinstalled on the next-generation MB resulting in a final weight of approximately just 400 lbs. above the specifications.

Willys-Overland would build more than 368,000 vehicles, and Ford, under license, some 277,000, for the U.S. Army. The rugged, reliable olive-drab vehicle would forever be known for helping win a world war.

Willys trademarked the "Jeep" name after the war and planned to turn the vehicle into an off-road utility vehicle for the farm - the civilian Universal Jeep. One of Willys' slogans at the time was "The Sun Never Sets on the Mighty Jeep," and the company set about making sure the world recognized Willys as the creator of the vehicle.

1940 Jeep Willys Quad

At first, Willys-Overland and American Bantam Car Manufacturing Company were the only two companies answering the call. Soon, however, Ford Motor Company entered the picture, and competition began among the three over which company would receive the lucrative government contract.

Each company produced prototypes for testing in record time. Bantam's chief engineer, along with a team of Bantam executives, worked out a design, and the company built its field car within 49 days.

Willys-Overland Vice President of Engineering Delmar G. Roos designed the Willys Quad. Ford developed its Model GP (General Purpose), known as the Pygmy, which was powered by an adapted Ford/Ferguson tractor. Each company delivered its prototype to the Army in the summer of 1940 and received approval to build 70 sample vehicles.

The Army took possession of these vehicles in November 1940 at Camp Holabird, Md. Each of the three designs exceeded the Army's specification of 1,300 lbs., but the Army soon realized that limit was far too low and raised it for the next round of vehicles.

The Army issued the next round of contracts in March of 1941. Bantam was to produce 1,500 Model 40 BRC vehicles, Ford would build 1,500 modified and improved GP Pygmies, and Willys would build 1,500 Quads. Further testing and evaluation led to the Army's selection of the Willys vehicle as the standard.

Subsequently, most of the Bantams and Ford GPs produced were sent to Great Britain and Russia as part of the lend-lease program. In Great Britain, the Ford vehicle was popularly known as the "Blitz Buggy."

With modifications and improvements, the Willys Quad became the MA, and later the MB. But the Army, and the world, came to know it as the Jeep®.
